That's a great question!
14-karat gold fill is exceptionally high quality and is a durable, affordable alternative to solid 14-karat gold.
14-karat gold fill starts with a heavy sheet of nickel-free brass as a base and has a thick layer of 14-karat gold that is heat and pressure bonded to the surface of the brass.
The gold layer is about 100 times thicker than the layers of gold you will find with traditional gold plating. The surface is both tarnish-resistant and hypoallergenic. The gold layer should be long-lasting, and it won't rub off under normal jewelry-wearing conditions.
So, go ahead and wear your gold-filled pieces in the shower. Sleep in them! Weather and water will not damage gold-filled pieces. They are generally easy-care and, in our experience, perform similar to solid gold pieces.
